Madrid-based language learning platform busuu launches campaign to save the near-extinct language of Busuu!

Right before our interview with busuu’s co-founder Bernhard Niesner, the young company launched a video campaign to save the Busuu language.

The Busuu language, which is near-extinct, is spoken in Cameroon. According to an ethnological study conducted in the eighties, apparently only eight people are able to speak the language.

The ‘Save Busuu’ campaign comes with a user learning pack and a social media campaign asking users to create a song in the language. The aim is to raise awareness of the Busuu language (from which the European startup plucked its name) and to, ultimately, prevent its extinction, however lofty a goal that might be.

A fun fact is that to produce the campaign, busuu sent a film crew and linguistic experts to the remote village of Weh in north-west Cameroon. The resulting video is actually now the first evidence of the Busuu language available online!

Enjoy the video and let’s save busuu!
